"Yosemite National Park doubled the scope of its hantavirus warning on Thursday to some 22,000 visitors who may have bn exposed to the deadly mouse-borne disease as the number of confirmed cases grew to eight and a third death was reported."

"The H1N1 (swine) flu vaccine was associated with a small but significant risk for developing a rare nervous disorder called Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS), say doctors in a report detailed in the July 11 issue of  the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA)."

Philly overtakes NYC as U.S. bedbug capital Print E-mail

"Philadelphia wasn't the only city to pass New York in the rankings; Cincinnati moved up to No. 2, pushing NYC down to third. Ohio remains a hotbed of bedbug activity in general, with at least three of its cities — Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland — included in the top 15 for the third year in a row."

"Bedbugs were virtually eliminated from the U.S. last century by DDT, a pesticide that was later banned due to its knack for also killing brown pelicans, bald eagles and other birds.  The blood-sucking insects have since staged a nationwide comeback, fueled partly by their growing resistance to a variety of pesticides — including DDT.."

Moms' Note:  How can it be known if  bedbugs are DDT resistant is the government does not allow DDT to be used?  While birds are indeed beautiful, shouldn't the health and lives of our children matter more?
