Every American Should Have The Right To Speak Freely
Monday, 13 February 2006
Theresa Fleming, Editorial
"The cost of freedom is high, but Americans have always paid it." -President John F. Kennedy
There can be no greater gift than the gift given by a person who lays down their life for the sake of another. Throughout our country's history, over one million men and women serving in our armed forces have given their lives so that our country might remain safe and free. Isn't that freedom supposed to be for every American? But the truth is, not every American in our country has the same equal right to freedom of speech. Pastors, whether they be priests, pastors, or rabbis do not have the same freedom of speech as other citizens. It's time, past time, that they did.
Congressman Walter Jones from North Carolina has introduced H.R. 235, a bill which would protect the right of all spiritual leaders to freely speak to the members of their congregations on all issues, including political ones. Every American should be free, including Pastors and Rabbis. For the minute we allow the freedom of even one American to be taken away, the freedom of every American is at risk.

Dewine Votes Against Budget Cuts
Friday, 03 February 2006
From the Plain Dealer:
"Washington- So much for political labels. A Republican from Ohio - one who's rated poorly by environmental groups - helped block a bill Wednesday that would have permitted oil exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Yet a Democrat from Ohio - someone liked by environmentalists - had voted to open the refuge to drilling.
Not quite as extraordinary as that juxtaposition, both of these men - Republican U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine and Democratic U.S. House member Sherrod Brown - voted against budget cuts they say will harm the underprivileged. DeWine, the Republican, echoed those on the left when he said, "This bill, I think, hurts children."
AARP is urging the U.S. House of Representatives to vote “No” on the irresponsible budget reconciliation bill because it could deny essential health and long-term care to millions of Americans. While this harmful bill narrowly passed the House once, representatives have a unique opportunity to vote again on this bill—now that it is clear how it would deny millions of Americans the health care they need.

Pastors and Rabbis Deserve to Have the Same Freedom as Other Americans do

Editorial
President Kennedy once said, "The cost of freedom is high, but Americans have always paid it". Throughout our country's history, over one million men and women serving in our armed forces have given their lives so that the people of our country might remain safe and free. The very least we can and should do, is honor their sacrifice by making sure that the freedom they gave their lives to protect applies to each and every American. For the minute we allow the freedom of even one American to be taken away, the freedom of every American is at risk. Ministers, whether they be Priests, Pastors or Rabbis should have the same freedom of speech that every other American does. And it's time, past time, that our country did something to ensure that they do.
Congressman Walter Jones of North Caroline introduced H.R. 235, a bill which is designed to ensure that Pastors and Rabbis be allowed to have the same rights and freedom of speech that every other American is given. For more information on this important bill, please call:
" Angered by a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that sided with a Connecticut city that wanted to seize homes for economic development, a group of activists is trying to get one of the justices who voted for the decision evicted from his own home. The group, led by a California man, wants Justice David Souter's home seized for the purpose of building an inn called "Lost Liberty Hotel."
