Dayton Daily News: Moms for Ohio Endorses Smoke Free Ohio |
Monday, 26 June 2006 |
From The Dayton Daily News: Moms back smoke-free campaign "SmokeFreeOhio picked up its 400th endorsement last week in the campaign to ban smoking at work and in public places statewide. The anti-smoking group is trying to put a new state law on the November ballot, not a constitutional amendment. The idea is that even people who work in bars, bowling alleys and bingo halls deserve a smoke-free workplace and not be subjected to secondhand smoke. Moms for Ohio endorsed the campaign last week, becoming the 400th backer of the Smoke-Free Workplace Act. Others include the American Cancer Society, businesses, hospitals, doctors, dentists, nurses and teachers' groups. The Ohio Licensed Beverage Association and tobacco companies have organized opposition by pitching a constitutional amendment that would be less stringent, wipe out local smoking laws and be more difficult to change." Update on Sexual Predator Legislation |
Friday, 28 April 2006 |
As parents and lawmakers, it's our job to do everything we can to keep our children as safe as possible, but we can't do that if our justice system keeps letting violent sex offenders back out on the streets. That's why the efforts being made by our state legislators to protect our children are so very important. It's difficult to believe that anyone could harm our children in such a horrific way, but sadly such things do happen. As parents, we must do everything we can to protect our children and we are very grateful to our state's legislators for their efforts to do just that. Below are links to HB 227 and Jessica's law. Both bills are extremely important and we hope they will soon become law. Special thanks go to Speaker Jon Husted, Senate President Bill Harris, State Representative Keith Faber and State Senator Steve Austria.
HB 227, Keeping Our Children Safe (Passed in the Ohio House, awaiting Senate vote)
Ohio's Jessica's Law
There are also a number of local efforts being made to protect our children as well. Please check back for our upcoming article on these efforts. |
